The national radio station Tengri FM and the TV channel STV present the first International Festival of Contemporary Ethnic Music in Kazakhstan — The Spirit of Tengri. According to a correspondent of Tengrinews.kz, the concert will take place on June 8 at the square in front of the Mega Alma-Ata shopping center and will feature performances by 12 musical groups from across the Eurasian continent.

Kazakhstani musicians are also among the participants, including the band Aldaspan, well known for their powerful performance at the First Tengri FM Rock Awards, the original ethno-folk group Hapanasasa, and solo performers — Korlan, a virtuoso of the zhetygen, and the singer Naya, distinguished by her extraordinary vocal abilities.

The concert will be opened by veterans of Kazakhstan’s rock scene and live sound — the band Roksonaki. Fans of ethnic music will also enjoy performances by world-renowned artists of the genre. For example, Buryatia will be represented by the group Namgar, famous worldwide not only for its unique sound but also for its exceptional lineup of musicians.

The Tuvan singer and improviser Sainkho Namchylak, renowned for her mastery of throat singing blended with jazz, blues, and avant-garde styles, will perform together with DJ Dixon from Hong Kong. The stage will also host the band Argymak from Bashkortostan, Chyltys Tannagasheva from Mountain Shoria, Juliana, an improviser and virtuoso of the khomus from Yakutia, the singer Gulzada from Kyrgyzstan, and multi-instrumentalist Bolot Bayryshev, representing the Altai Republic.

“Today, this is a new and very interesting direction for Kazakhstan. I know Kazakh music and folklore well. This project will be presented in an ethno-electronic format. Nowadays, every festival is searching for its own path and an original, engaging approach.”
