ABOUT THE BOOK
We present a book about the pop music of independent Kazakhstan — a study dedicated to the local musical culture from 1991 to 2023, made possible solely through collective memory and analysis. A 33-year overview period 400 names of musicians, artists, and more 15 months of continuous work 30+ informants To ensure our research was as universal as possible, we turned to professionals closely connected to the diverse genres of Kazakhstan’s music scene. It was important for us to create an independent and self-sustained branch of history in collaboration exclusively with local experts, without the need to request archives from foreign researchers or rely on an external perspective on our culture and society.
